Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. John 2:7-8
Isn’t it interesting that the servants were the only participants and witnesses to the first miracle Jesus did? Servants back then, were at the foot of the social ladder. All the invited (and I dare say important) guests at the wedding at Cana experienced the manifestation of the miracle. Had they known the source of this wine, I wonder what their reactions would have been?
As it turned out the only persons with this knowledge were some unnamed servants. All we know about them is that, according to John 2:8 NLT, they followed Jesus’ instructions.
Each born again believer has a calling on his or her life. There are things God has called us to do for which we may never receive an applause. Others will enjoy the manifestation of the work we do, and others may even get the credit. However, let us continue to do the work assigned to us by God while remaining in the positions to which God has called us. God will reward us one day.
Let us serve the Lord, and each other, with sincerity of heart. At the end of our days here on earth, we will be remembered for many things, may one of them be, “he/she followed Jesus’ instructions”.
Prayer: – Father, help us not to grumble about the work that we do for the kingdom, nor the fact that we do not receive the due recognition. Lord, may our hearts seek after Your approval, rather than the approval of men. Amen
