When God is On Your Side

But the Lord was with Joseph, and he [though a slave] was a successful and prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. Genesis 39:2

How was it possible for Joseph to be successful and prosperous while he was still a slave?  I suppose the same way Isaac could sow in a time of famine and reap bountifully -Genesis 26:12.  Yes, God was with him. God was in his corner.

When you became a believer you entered a boxing ring, and who you have in your corner is important. God is the One you need in your corner.

However, God in your corner does not always mean that you will end up where you want to be. Joseph was still a slave in Egypt, even while God was with him. His status and his circumstances however did not define him, neither did it affect God’s ability to bless Joseph. Scripture said he was a prosperous man, even though he was a slave.

God in your corner does not mean your half-brothers will never betray you, throw you under the proverbial bus, and then sell you out. However, God can turn what they meant for evil into good Genesis 50:20

God in your corner does not mean that the storms will not come.  They will come, however, if you keep your eyes on Jesus, you may walk on water (Matthew 14:29) and God will keep you in the midst of the storm if you trust in Him.  Isaiah 26:3 NKJV – You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You

It does not matter where you are, when God is in your corner you can succeed even while you  live in the house of your enemies.  Joseph was in the house of his master the Egyptian and he prospered. God may even choose to bless  the people who enslave you, for your sake. They will even begin to grant you favors simply because God is with you.  Genesis 39:5-6.

God in your corner does not mean He will stop them from throwing you into the lions’ den, but he sure can shut the mouth of the lions.

God on your side does not mean that the enemy of your soul suddenly stops pursuing you, but when he comes after you, you should “stand still and see the salvation of the Lord”, for the enemy you see today, one day you will see him again no more. Exodus 14:13-14.

When God is in your corner, don’t worry if your dream seem out of reach.  God has you where he can process you.  It was not coincidental that Joseph found himself in the house of Potiphar an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard.  I wonder what he learnt as he managed the Egyptian’s household.

In the good times and the bad times, God is in your corner.  You just have to trust Him even if things are not working out the way you expected them to.

The bible tells us that the ways of the Lord are past finding out. Romans 11:33.  Sometimes God’s timing and His strategy do not line up with our expectations.  However, when we know that God is in our corner, we understand that, if the need arises, our God is able to part the Red Sea so we can walk on dry ground.

Prayer: Lord the road we travel on is often rocky at best, but we traverse this highway with the confidence birthed out of the knowledge that you are in our corner. Holy Spirit where we lack faith, help Thou our unbelief. Amen
