Whose Voice Are You Listening To?

And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. John 10:4-5

“His voice, makes the difference, when He speaks He relieves my troubled mind”.  These are the words of a familiar song, and it speaks of the voice of our Shepherd, not the other voices that invades our thought lives – our own voices, the voice of others, and often the voice of the Devil.

Thoughts of regret, fear, doubt and death daily bombards the minds of the believer.  This is not God’s voice. Our Father’s voice speaks life and brings hope, even when He is correcting us.  The longer we listen to the wrong voices, the less effective we become as believers and the longer it takes us to walk into God’s plans and purposes for our lives.

Many God-given dreams have died with the dreamer who listened to the wrong voice.  Some shared their dream with others, who convinced them that it is unachievable.  They listened, and gave up, even though they knew in their hearts that the idea was from God.

Other believers are convinced that they are worthless.  This is another lie from the enemy. If you doubt that you are valuable, then you need to look at John 3:16. Simply remove the words “world” and “whosoever” and put your name there, then you will understand your true worth.

Many believe that God will never heal them, and some have convinced themselves that it is the will of God for them to be sick, or that God is punishing them.  Lies, lies and more lies.

In Matthew 10:7-8 Jesus sent out His disciples to preach that the kingdom of heaven is at hand.  He told them that as they went they were to “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devil”.  If it were God’s will for us to walk in sickness, then God’s kingdom would be a divided kingdom, as Jesus would be operating contrary to God’s plan.  Jesus said, He only did what He saw His Father do – John 5:19, and He only did that which pleased the Father John 8:29. It pleases the Father to see you whole.

The answer to why you are not yet walking in your healing may be different for each person, but that God desires for you to be sick is not an option. Healing is a part of the all-inclusive package of the gift of salvation. We need to understand this. In fact, the Greek word for salvation sozo according to Strongs Concordance means “to save, i.e. deliver or protect (literally or figuratively):—heal, preserve, save (self), do well, be (make) whole”.

When the enemy comes to you with lies, follow Jesus’ example in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11).  Counteract his lies with the word of God.  For example, you tell yourself that you can get nothing right, you always mess up, remind yourself of Philippians 4:13 and Proverbs 3:5-6 and my personal favorite, Philippians 3:12-14. 12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

When you feel as though your world is falling apart- Psalm 56:3 AMP, and another favorite of mine Zechariah 4:6-7. Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.

The word of God is the voice of God. It is no coincidence that Paul in his writings about the armor of God placed the helmet and the sword in the same sentence. Therefore, grab your helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Ephesians 6:17. God bless you.

Prayer: Father, we repent today of the numerous times we have listen to the voice of others rather than to You.  Please forgive us and help us not to fall for any more of the enemy’s lies, but rather to confidently wield the sword of the Spirit, which is Your word. Amen
